This secret level - which, let’s be honest, isn’t much of a secret anymore - has become an essential visit for players throughout the years. Of course, it remains present in Diablo 2: Resurrected, but with an interesting tweak. This page explains how to unlock the Cow Level location in Diablo 2. For those who are either unaware or need a refresher, the steps are fairly simple - but there are some conditions to keep in mind. First of all, you need to have retrieved the Horadric Cube during Act II. This takes place during the quest The Horadric Staff with Deckard Cain. Then, you need to have finished all Acts in the game. The difficulty in which you do so matters as well - beating the game in Normal will set the Cow Level difficulty to Normal, and so on with Hell and Nightmare. Once those two are settled, it’s time to revisit Tristram. Remember that you can do so from the Cairn Stones’ portal in The Stony Field from Act I. Head to Tristram and upon your arrival, you’re going to head to the northwestern corner of the map. There, you’ll find Wirt’s Body on the floor. Looting Wirt will grant you Wirt’s Leg, as well as some gold, which is welcomed. This is the only key item that you’ll need to enter the Cow Level. Afterwards, all you have to do is place Wirt’s Leg inside the Horadric Cube alongside a town scroll. If you have a tome instead, using it will work as well. Once both items are in the Horadric Cube, use the Transmutate button and the portal will appear. We recommend you to be in a town when you do so. Looking for more help? We have pages on the best Diablo 2 class, best Diablo 2 builds and runewords, Diablo 2 leveling, how to import saves, how to reset your skills, how to identify items, when and how to imbue items, where to find monastery locations and the underground passage, and finally, how to access the secret cow level. This portal will let you visit the Moo Moo Farm, where you can expect many cows coming at you. You can see the level in action below, courtesy of YouTube user CruelAngel: Aside from the visual upgrade, it remains fairly similar to the classic Moo Moo Farm. That being said, beating the Cow King (which is the area’s boss) no longer locks you out from the Cow Level like it used to. Now, you’re free to revisit it as many times as you’d like. That’s all there is to know. Have fun in the farm!
